Addictions & Mental Health Counsellor

This is a full-time permanent counseling position. Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Addictions Counsellor position is responsible for providing direct clinical services for clients experiencing both substance abuse and co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. This involves providing individual counselling, skill development and psychoeducational interventions, as well as case management services. Timely and accurate completion of clinical documentation and assessments are additional responsibilities of the position. This position works closely with aftercare, nursing, and milieu staff in a multidisciplinary treatment team.

The Top of the World Ranch Treatment Centre for Adult’s, provides holistic treatment that addresses the biopsychosocial and spiritual needs of adult clients in a unique wilderness setting that provides unparalleled access to nature in the East Kootenays. Along with traditional 12-Step, psychoeducational and counselling approaches, we offer a strong aftercare program, family intensive program, spiritual programming, wilderness activity therapeutic activities, yoga, art/music therapy and mindfulness practice that are integrated into our overall treatment program.

Knowledge skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of evidence-supported drug/alcohol and co-occurring services and programs.
  • Familiarity with 12-Step programs.
  • Commitment to upholding professional ethics and to practicing with integrity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and other staff members.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM-5.
  • Working knowledge of assessment and screening tools; ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of clients in individual, group and family settings in a diverse work setting.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • A positive, proactive approach to dealing with complex clinical cases.
  • Ability to work effectively with referral sources in the community.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and productive working relationship with various referral agencies, as well as with other organizational personnel. 

Education and Experience

  • A Master’s Degree in a mental health field is required. Eligibility for registration in a relevant professional association.
  • Supervised clinical experience with clients who experience both substance abuse and mental health disorders is required.
  • Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing, Transtheoretical Theory of Change and other empirically-supported treatment approaches is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to pass an extensive criminal background check.

Salary

DOE. Extended health care benefits available after completion of the probationary period.

Schedule

40+ hours per week. Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:30-5. Some weekend hours in the case of client needs.

Program Facilitator

Are you passionate about providing care and support that enables people to engage fully and accountably in recovery programming? If so, you may be a great addition to our team of Program Facilitators at Top of the World Ranch Treatment Centre.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with clients in a helpful and supportive way to enable clients to engage fully and accountably in their recovery
  • Facilitate client experiential programs
  • Document client information accurately
  • Complete daily operational tasks assigned
  • Answer phones and direct calls
  • Speak with prospective clients on the phone and via email
  • Conduct client intakes and discharges
  • Dispense and document medications to clients accurately
  • Transport clients
  • Administer drug screening tests
  • Clearly communicate with all partners
  • Perform light administrative tasks
  • Complete required Interior Health paperwork accurately
  • Prepare and facilitate client graduations
  • Coordinate and oversee client cleaning participation
  • Maintain constructive relationships with team members and clients
  • Help with cleaning as needed

You will need to be able to:
