Recognizing that the disease of addiction affects the BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL-SPIRITUAL dimensions, the clinical team at Top of the World provides a treatment program that addresses all these area.

The team of highly trained, respectful, deeply committed and passionate professionals of physicians, counselors, family therapists, nurses and support/recovery staff will gently and firmly guide our clients through their individualized goals and recovery.

The Top of the World Ranch Treatment Centre is a Level 111.5 Center according to the ASAM PPC-2R Level of Care Criteria. We are a Clinically Managed High Intensity Residential Treatment Centre that provides 24 hr care with trained counselors and support staff. Compassionate and well trained, they are available around the clock to stabilize clients and provide support. Our counselors provide both group psycho educational and group psycho therapeutic treatment in conjunction with intensive individual therapy sessions with each of our clients. We provide up to date clinical education and self care seminars with evidence based strategies including cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing as well as mutual help support groups making Top of the World Ranch one of the most intensive and thorough recovery programs in the world.

At Top of the World Ranch Treatment Centre, our clients begin their stay with a 2 day assessment period.  This is an important period of time in which we, together with our individual clients conduct the ASI (Addiction Severity Index), undergo the initial counseling session, and discover and diagnose what stage of change our clients appear to be in.  We establish goals and develop the individual treatment plan.  We assign appropriate reading material that is geared to the unique needs of the individual client along with accompanying assignments.  This time allows our clients a full orientation as to what the ranch has to offer as well as ranch expectations.  This is also a time for reflection, a time of retreat, a time to get to know oneself more intimately without the pressures from the outside world.  This is a time to visualize what we wish our lives to look like upon our departure and into the future.  This is a time to commit to finding and becoming the person that we know we are supposed to be.

We utilize an initial comprehensive assessment using the ASI (Addiction Severity Index) followed by an individual case management model throughout the length of the clients stay, ensuring that the Top of the World Ranch clinicians identify and respond to any emergent co-occurring mental health problems that arise.

Time Tested Supports: Because we are holistic in our approach to addictions, we are not a traditional 12 step treatment center and program. However the most successful, widely available, spiritually conducive and encouraging relapse preventive care offered are the 12 step groups of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. AA & NA offer experience, strength and hope to all persons who suffer from alcohol and/or drug addiction. As a part of our program and our clients relapse prevention plan and continuing care, we attend both AA & NA meetings off site and have a 12 step meeting hosted on site.

We also encourage a balanced approach to recovery emphasizing regular self care and stress reduction with exercise, stretching, tai chi, mindfulness meditation and creative therapies for enhanced internal tranquility and to support attention span and information retention as part of a clinically proven cognitive functioning repair process.

Recognizing that addiction is also a disease that affects the whole family, we have family therapists and family weekend sessions in which family members are encouraged to attend. The family weekends are here to help the client and their families.

Physical recovery is key. A fully equipped fitness gymnasium with high-quality stationary aerobic and weight stations is on site for the exclusive use of programme participants. The Ranch supports biological recovery for participants of every level of physical ability. Many miles of varied hiking and biking trails wind their way through the Ranch backcountry inviting our clients to get closer in touch with Nature’s healing rhythms on guided regular adventures. You will also have ample opportunity to be still or take a silent reflective walk within the beauty of nature. Creative therapies are available and taught to clients in various media, including arts and music.  

 Highest attention is paid to nutritional recovery through our chef’s creative and appealing supply of healthy meals and snacks. Every effort is made to ensure that the finest quality ingredients are combined to satisfy a varied palette of tastes and nutritional needs. The ranch also provides nutritional supplements for our clients as part of the recovery process.

Supported group living is highly conducive to personal and social rehabilitation for people who struggle with addictive and compulsive behaviors. As participants engage in group activities and daily routines, the Ranch’s skilled support workers are available to facilitate and enhance greater development of each client’s social boundaries and communication skills. Support workers and counsellors instruct each participant in the art of healthy conflict resolution. Group members can be invaluable as mirrors of unhealed aspects of ones being. Clear and healthy personal boundaries are essential for sustaining healthy recovery. The interaction that takes place within the client community helps to establish trust, reinvigorate communication skills and allows our clients to know that they are an essential part of the whole.

Aftercare: A major and very important factor in a clients sustained long term sobriety and overall life contentment is a solid and attainable relapse prevention plan and aftercare supports.  At Top of the World Ranch Treatment Centre we create this aftercare plan with our clients, to include available support within the clients own community, as well we offer a minimum of 4 individual on premises or tele-counseling sessions upon your departure from treatment.  We have an aftercare counsellor who is dedicated to following up with and offering assistance to all clients after they have left treatment. We offer an online alumni forum that is interactive, offers recovery based topics and allows departing clients to stay connected to the ranch and to each other with full privacy offered. All of this helps to assist in the transition from treatment at the Ranch to settling back into your home.  This is all included in your cost of treatment.  As we work together with you, we offer you guidance in making the decisions that are best for you.
